According to the results of Insurance Attitude and Behavior Survey of Turkey regarding the ideas concerning insurance and insurance awareness of consumers, people minded their lives the most and health comes to their minds when insurance is talked about.

According to the results of Insurance Attitude and Behavior Survey of Turkey, it was emphasized that health came first for individuals when insurance was talked about. Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey (TSRŞB) also announced the results of Insurance Attitude and Behavior Survey of Turkey at the meeting where industry data regarding year 2011 were presented. Within the context of the survey, the participants stated their worries about the future among which the highest concern was about their lives. The worry of individuals about their goods in year 2008 has left its place to worries about their lives in 2012. According to the results, the worry of individuals about health and earthquake risks has increased compared to previous years. The participants taking part in the survey conducted by IDE Research, Promotion and Consultancy Services have been chosen from among individuals of 16 and older and within A, B, C1 SES groups. In the survey covering insurance holders and non-holders, 50 percent of the participants were female while the other 50 percent were male. Within the context of the survey carried out in houses, workplaces and central locations in 17 cities, total of 3007 persons were interviewed. Telling the new incentive legislation to banking and insurance industry, Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan said that the new incentive system will virtually serve as a projector for the banking and insurance system. Çağlayan, telling that finance industry formed one of the most important legs of the new incentive system, said “The new incentive system is actually conveying very important messages regarding bankers and insurers. Yazıcı also said that they expected the damage figure to reach 80 million lira. Yazıcı telling that the total damage paid by TCIP since Van earthquake had reached 100 million lira said “While this figure is high, TCIP’s total power of damage payments power in a possible big earthquake is much higher. Having nearly one third as proprietary resources and two thirds as reassurance capacity, our total damage payment power in a big earthquake is 5.5 billion lira.” Yazıcı also referring to the effect of Van earthquake on the rate of being insured emphasized that the number of policies in whole of Turkey grew by 12.4 percent in comparison to previous year to reach 3.8 million. Telling that the number of policies had been 3.6 million the day before the earthquake was as of today 3.8 million on a growth of 6.7 percent, Yazıcı told the following: “The number of compulsory earthquake policies which was 6,656 last year reached 15,113 on a growth of 127 percent. The effective number of policies which was 7,318 before the earthquake reached 15,113.”

The deputy general manager of Anadolu Hayat Emeklilik which is one of the companies providing education insurance service Uğur Erkan said that Education Insurance product could be bought by healthy father, mother or relatives aged between 18 and 65 who want to guarantee the continuity of their children’s education against unexpected risks. “With the product, the child or the warden is paid the amount of money set beforehand for the defined period in case the insured party loses his life” says Erkan adding “Thus we have established an opportunity for the children to get the best education against the risks of life. Assurance Account which meets the treatment expenditures of physically harmed (disablement or death) and pays disablement compensation in case of disablement after accident, and pays those deprived of the support of the late person compensation for this with the provisions from compulsory insurances within its body has announced its data for the first three months of year 2012. According to the data, Assurance Account has made payments of 12,159,052 lira for 376 files in the first three months taking the figure for its payments since 1998 when it was established to 257,055,631 lira of compensation payments on 96,504 files in total. The Center has made payments of 17,269 lira of material compensation, 170,991 lira of treatment compensation, 6,832,702 lira of death and burial compensation, 5,138,088 lira of disablement compensation.

Dubai Amir Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid El Maktoum is selling his financial assets in Turkey. It was learned that El Maktoum owning Taib Investment Bank and Dubai Sigorta wanted to grow in tourism. El Maktoum pushed the button for selling companies under Dubai Group structure as he could not heal the wounds of the “Dubai Loan Crisis” which exploded in 2009. According to information received from the industry, a Qatari and Western European group is interested in Dubai Sigorta. An investment banker who asked not to be named said “It will be more valuable for the buyer if the bank and the insurance company are sold as a package. In this case, I believe the buyer will again be from the Gulf Region. We know that there are many companies from Bahreyn, Qatar and Abu Dhabi interested in this” while a foreign banker said “The number of foreigners interested in insurance industry are much higher, I believe the insurance company will be sold faster.”

Radical decisions have been made about Private Pension System (BES) which will be celebrating its 10th birthday and start to bring out its first real retirees next year. While Deputy Prime minister Ali Babacan gave the good news about “public contribution share” based new system with the press meeting organized recently, the decisions have also been considered positive by industry representatives. Large groups of people like housewives, students etc., who could not benefit from the tax promotion of the system until recently will see a more attractive system to join with the new regulation and experts are equivocal that these regulations will grow BES even more. It is expected that the new decisions taken about BES will turn into legislation in May and transition to the new system will take place in the last quarter of the year.
